About International Pheromone Systems

In 1975 a subsidiary company of Unilever group, called Food Industries Ltd. (specialising in food functional ingredients and flavouring) became interested in lures for the control of pests and later Group Research Development became involved in the synthesis of pheromones. They founded International Pheromones Ltd to develop the business further. In 1985 the company became International Pheromone Systems Ltd. Since then, we have traded from our present address in Ellesmere Port.

With the introduction of new EU legislations reducing the number of pesticides we can use in our crops and the rise in pest species becoming resistant to commonly used insecticides, growers are finding it increasingly difficult to find effective and economical ways to manage pests without increasing production costs. These issues are exacerbated by the growing pressures from the government, the market and the general public to reduce pesticide usage and residues. We, at IPS, understand these problems facing growers today and as a company, we aim to offer an alternative to reduce pesticide usage and growers' reliability on these chemicals. By supplying alternatives using pheromones incorporated into monitoring, mating disruption and mass trapping programs, our goal is to promote an overall more effective, economical and sustainable system using pheromones and lures to manage pests based on integrated pest management (IPM) principles and science.

Scientific research and experiences from growers have shown that pheromone trapping systems can be proven effective in monitoring pest populations and mating disruptions in factories, granaries, orchards etc. Pheromone products have also played a significant role in the control of pests of economic importance to mass trap the Mediterranean fruit flies in Hawaii, red dated palm weevil in the Middle East and many more.

International Pheromone Systems Ltd. supplies pheromones and lures of the highest quality for 100+ Lepidopteron pest species; major beetle pests (such as the stored product beetles, click beetles, strawberry blossom weevils, red palm weevil); baits for urban wasp, flies and cockroaches; and effective attractants to monitor or mass trap the destructive fruit flies. In addition to our wide range of pheromones and lures, we also provide a wide selection of high quality IPS traps made in the UK ranging from Unitrap funnel traps, Liquibaitor traps, sticky traps etc to be used in conjunction with our pheromones and lures.

We are an expanding company and always interested to find ways in which we can work together with distributors, agronomists, growers and research institutes to identify solutions to emerging new pests and make our systems even better, more effective and cheaper without compromising the quality of our products. If there is anything we can help out with, we will certainly look into it.
